Tropical Timber Program

The Sustainable Trade Initiative has, in cooperation with other partners, set up the Congo Basin Program. The Congo Basin Program is part of IDH's Tropical Timber Program. IDH is the main funder and also plays a role in advising and supporting Form in their role as program coordinator.

IDH’s mission is to accelerate and upscale the sustainable production and the trade of commodities in collaboration with private partners, civil society organizations and governments. Core strategy of the Tropical Timber Program is to improve the business case for change by supporting certification in tropical timber producing regions AND to increase the market share of sustainable tropical timber in Europe. Regularly, ideas are shared with the various sister programs: The Amazone Alternative, The Borneo Initiative, and Linking Europe.

Tropical Timber Program

The Amazone Alternative

The Amazon Alternative aims for FSC certification of 2.5 million hectares by 2013. It partners with private enterprises and forest communities. Focus lies on Peru, Bolivia and Brazil.

The Borneo Initiative The Borneo Initiative aims to bring 13 million ha of forest under FSC certification by 2015. It works together with private enterprises and focuses on Indonesia, mainly Borneo.
Linking Europe

The Linking Europe program's goal is to stimulate the demand for sustainably produced timber in 3 European countries. It does so by working together with key-accounts, governments and existing initiatives.
